Musician person
Exploring sounds in real-time! At the heart of Håvard Aufles’ solo work lies a journey of sonic discovery. Often improvised, always spontaneous and inquisitive. His total sound focus draws upon recorded music and production as a form of musical expression, infused with a hint of the free jazz spirit and an anachronistic approach to musical history’s references. Both acoustic and electronic, both fast and slow.
LAV SOL is the band of three imaginative and sharp musicians who utilize every tool in their arsenal! Having known each other for years through the Trondheim jazz scene, it wasn’t until 2021 that August Glännestrand, Heiða Karine Jóhannesdóttir, and Håvard Aufles began playing together, quickly discovering the distinctive sound they have today. You might recognize them from Broen, Skrap, Liv Andrea Hauge Trio, and various installments of the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra.
Music is never quite what it seems with LAV SOL—here, acoustic instruments bubble up against cutting-edge technology. The result is both beautiful and gritty tracks inspired by electronica, hip-hop, and rock. Their influences range from Ringo Starr of The Beatles to Aphex Twin’s drum machines, with improvisation that is tight, interactive, and expressive. The acoustic meets the electronic in the band’s unique sound, blending tuba, synth, and drums, enriched by a vast library of samples and effects.
Deeply rooted in the traditions of jazz, Håvard Aufles, Simon Albertsen, Karl Bjorå, and Karl Hjalmar Nyberg strive to carve out something unique. Small eclectic ideas unfold into music rich in human emotion, guided by spontaneity and a noble, heartfelt honesty. Influences from rock and jazz meet the ideals of improvisational music, with the occasional tender ballad.
Instrumental, brilliant, captivating, and bold!
